Box 1303
Boulder, CO 80306
RE: DEEPE FARM PIT - Amendment 002 Adequacy Review
Permit No. M-81-302 - AM 002
Dear Mr. Hart:
The Division has reviewed the above-referenced amendment and has the following questions:
1) By filling an additional 33.9 acres, which were originally proposed as water surface, additional
topsoil will be needed. Calculatingan average depth of 7 inches of topsoil times 33.9 acres, the
Division estimates that an additional 31, 917 cubic yards of topsoil will be required.
Please describe the total area of disturbance which has not yet been topsoiled, including the 33.9
acres being added as land surface. Also, please document the amount of topsoil you have
available and demonstrate that there is adequate topsoil available to cover the disturbed area
with 6 to 8 inches of topsoil.
2. The Division's reclamation cost estimate completed on August 19, 1996 did not include the
excavation of any bedrock shale.
Since the time of the reclamation cost estimate, the operator has completed the removal of
facilities and done additional finish grading work.
Please provide the Division with an estimate of the remaining cubic yards of material which
must be moved to obtain the proposed final contours and the average push distance required to
move the material.
Also, please provide the Division with the yardage of topsoil which must still be distributed,
where it must be placed and the locations of this material,as well as the total remaining acreage
which must be seeded.
