Box 54
Delta, Colorado 81416
,~ / /
Re: Benton Dawson Pit, M-1983-209, Technical Revision TR-01, Approval
Dear Mr. Ripp,
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION
MINCCI~NG
- Uc-
SAFETY
Bill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has reviewed the request for a Technical Revision to
the Mining and Reclamation Plans for the above referenced site. A review of the plans indicates minor
changes in plans to allow deeper excavation and grading to make the site better suited for horse
operations, etc. The deeper excavation and grading will allow for better configuration for stormwater
and irrigation drainage which has been an issue at the site. Based on the on site observations and the
proposed plans staff feels the Technical Revision is appropriate. Therefore, Staff is approving TR-O1 to
allow deeper excavation and proposed a?radin>; chanyes.
The Financial Warranty was recalculated in 2002 at which time there had been no reclamation
completed. Staff has noted considerable reclamation along the north and east pit areas in 2006.
Therefore, the current bond held appears to be sufficient to cover the noted changes at this time. A bond
recalculation maybe done during the next regularly scheduled inspection.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
-~;~
G.
