Mined Land Reclamation Board
August 10, 1981
Page 7
weed control measures may be implemented, but this is not
expected to be more than a mere possibility .
Tree planting will occur the first spring ( late April
to late May) following grass seeding. Plains Cottonwood trees
will be planted at intervals of about 30 feet to 40 feet along
and above the lake slope. Russian Olive trees will be planted
at intervals of 8 to 15 feet between the cottonwoods . Each
tree will be given a heavy initial watering followed by a heavy
watering biweekly until mid-June . The trees will be watered
heavily in late September, and thereafter they will establish
themselves on ground water sources.
Contingency Plan for Industrial Site
It is hoped that the industrial site will be developed
immediately upon completion of mining and backfilling activities .
However, in the event such development does not occur, a con-
tingency plan is hereby submitted. The plan assumes that some kind
of development will occur. The city road plan calls for a through
road here, and the presence of sewer and gas lines indicates
development has an excellent chance of occurring.
In the event of development not beginning within one
year of completion of mining and backfilling, the area will be
planted with the following mixture of grasses and legume:
Species Rate (Lbs PLS/acre)*
Intermediate Wheatgrass 6
Fairway Crested Wheatgrass 3
Alfalfa, Ranger ( innoculated) 1
10
*Drilled rate; if broadcast , rates
will be doubled.
The area will be fertilized prior to seeding with 30
pounds per acre of nitrogen and 20 pounds per acre of phosphorous .
Since this part of the site is not going to be revegetated to a
final land use, but only stabilized, soil tests will not be
taken because such precision in fertilization is not necessary .
Technical Revision 3
The current reclamation bond of $11 ,900 is not adequate to cover
the revisions in the mining plan. Final bank slope and setback
reclamation cannot be totally completed in Excavation Areas 1 and
2 until the backfill operations in Excavation Areas 2 and 4 are
