Box 1849 Grand Junction, Colorado 81502 970/243-4604 • FAX 970/241-6622 <br />NOXIOUS WEED MANAGEMENT PLAN <br />MARCH 23, 2005 <br />PURPOSE <br />The purpose of this plan is to control noxious weed species that have been identified by <br />the Division of Minerals and Geology and or the Mesa County Noxious Weed <br />Management Plan as mandatory for control. <br />This plan will follow the amendment to the Divisions Weed Policy dated January 19, <br />2005 for Tamarisk and Russian Olives. Per this amendment, this Management Plan is <br />only applicable to azeas disturbed by mining within the permit area and not subject to the <br />"grandfather clause". Areas where all reclamation tasks have been completed and aze <br />awaiting adequate vegetation establishment prior to January 19, 2005 aze "grandfathered" <br />and exempt from tamarisk/Russianolwe control as governed by the Division. <br />GOALS <br />The goal of this Management Plan is to prevent the spread of noxious weed on and from <br />the property affected by the mining activities. The goal of the Plan is to control <br />tamarisk/Russianolives to satisfy the two following criteria: <br />1. Tamarisk infestations shall not exceed site conditions prior to disturbance caused by <br />the mining activities. <br />2. Tamazisk infestations shall not exceed densities on adjacent non-disturbed areas or <br />adjacent properties, which ever is applicable. <br />WEED CONTROL METHODS <br />GJ Pipe will use several methods in controlling noxious weeds, including but not limited <br />to mechanical, biological and chemical. GJ pipe will consult with the County and the <br />CSU Extension Office to identify and develop control plans for other weeds not <br />specifically addressed by this Plan. The following control methods will be used for the <br />known species of noxious weeds: <br />Russian Knapweed: Curail or Redeem herbicides will be applied at the bud-to-bloom <br />stage and in the fall from Mid-September until the first hard frost. Application rates will <br />be per the manufactures recommendations. <br />
