Requirement: Discharge from the initial mining area in Phase 2 will be either into Phase 1 or into
the adjacent drainage. If discharge is into the adjacent drainage, appropriate structures to control
^ow and sediment may be needed to maintain compliance with the NPDES permit.
DISCUSSION: Discharge from this area, when necessary, will be into either Phase 1, where it
would go through the sediment control system, or into the adjacent drainage ditch where it can flow
southward directly to the river. If the latter is done, then a few small step dams will be placed in the
drainage to reduce flow velocities and keep the water from accumulating sediment before it reaches the
river. Once the land within the groundwater barrier wall is dried out it is unlikely much discharge will be
needed.
Requirement: All discharges from the initial mining area for Phase 2 that do not pass through the
sediment control system for Phase 1 must be kept in compliance with the NPDES permit.
Requirement: Mining of the remainder of Phase 2 will generally proceed from west to east and
north to south. The southern side of the pit will not be mined within 300 feet of [he river until any
streambank stabilization actions taken on the current river bank have developed to a point where
they can protect the bank from undercutting.
Timetables of Operation
It is expected that with [he addition of Phase 2 the life of [his site will be extended 5 [o ] 0 years.
Phase L should be completed with mining in the next 18 to 24 months. Of course, [he actual life of the
mine, as is always the case, is dependent on demand for the product in the marketplace.
Explosives
No explosives will be used in the course of conducting this operation. The material to be mined is
easily extracted with afront-end loader or similar equipment.
Geotechnical Stability
No geotechnical problems are expected [o occur with this site. It is highly similar to other sites in
the existing operation and no stability problems with respect to mining the gravel have occurred, other
than flood impacts.
Pueblo East Pit Amendment 3 (2007) Exhibit D Page 33 of 34
