Box 1769 <br />Grand .Tunction, Colorado 81502 <br />Re: Whitewater Pit 500 <br />Permit M-1977-129 <br />Stage X, Stage Y, and Stage 1 <br />Dear Mr. Gardner: <br />T'he following is to document our previous discussions and provide recommendations <br />for reclamation issues on the above-referenced site. <br />['encing <br />In order to keep cattle outside the affected area over the long-term, the proposal is to <br />construct a permanent fence (about I mile long) between the mouth of Bangs Canyon <br />and the Gunnison River along the south boundary of the parcel being transferred to <br />BLM. The proposal would be to equally split the cost, with WBM purchasing the <br />fencing materials (about $2,500), and BLM constructing the fence. It is our <br />understauding you will advise BLM if you are agreeable to proceeding with the cost- <br />shareeffort. Jim Dollerschell (244-3016) is the BLM contact for the fencing project. <br />Weeds <br />It is our understauding that WBM intends to spray the weeds (except Russian <br />knapweed) starting in August, using a reputable spraying contractor. Then the <br />knapweed would be sprayed in the early fall. As you know, the DMG is also requiring <br />control of the tamarisk. You must coordinate your spraying effort on the BLM transfer <br />pat•cel with our weed specialist, Sparky Taber (244-3004). In addition, you must <br />coordinate with FWS regarding spraying efforts near the pond. <br />Reclamation <br />]n conjunction with weed control and fencing the site, reclamation efforts have <br />increased chance of success. Our recommendations include the following three <br />options: <br />
