Direct surface-water inflow to the mine was less during the aforementioned <br />observations (1959-1961) than during recent years: The increase in surface-water <br />inflow in recent years has resulted from the opening of the Lake Emma Hole and auto- <br />stoping of other mine workings to the surface (Simon Hydro-Search, 1992, pp. 35- <br />36). However, ongoing reclamation work in Sunnyside Basin has filled the Lake Emma <br />Hole, and blocked or diverted many of the other sources of surface water. <br />If the amount of surface water inflow continues to be greater than during the 1959- <br />1961 observations, then the equilibrium water level may be correspondingly higher. <br />Therefore, leakage analyses contained in later sections of this report contain estimates <br />based on both expected equilibrium water lever (near F level), and a most conservative <br />case (surface level in Sunnyside Basin). <br />7.2 Permeabi/ity at Proposed Bulkhead Sites <br />Cores were taken of the wall rock at each of the proposed bulkhead sites (American <br />Tunnel, Terry Tunnel, F-Level Brenneman and B-Level Brenneman). These cores were <br />submitted to Petroleum Testing Service, Inc. of California for laboratory measurement <br />of permeability to water. Permeability was measured using EPA Method 9100 with <br />a 250 psi net confining stress at 74°F. <br />Hydraulic conductivities ranged from 10~e to 10-10 cm/sec for unfractured core, to 10'6 <br />cm/sec for core showing fractures <br />Results are summarized in Table 5.
