Cattany
f Acting Division Director
RE: Spring Creek Pit, Permit No. M-1994-097, Inquiry about location of AM-02 Access Road /-
Dear Ms. Wissel:
Enclosed please find a map showing the location of the "new" access road proposed for the Spring
Creek Pit. This is the paved road currently being used for access to/from the pit. The operator of
the site, Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa County created the road in this
location to address concerns of Montrose County and of residents in the vicinity of the pit.
However, they failed to revise their reclamation permit to incorporate the construction and use of
the new road into that permit. This Amendment No. 2 (AM-02) process is being conducted to do
just that.
When acreage is added to an existing permit, the amendment process is required to allow for
review by this Division and for comment from the public. Your request was received within the
allowable public comment period, but is not considered a to be an objection to the application. The
public comment period is now closed. However, because your request was timely received, and
we did not respond in a timely manner, we will accept your comments if they are received by this
office by 5:00 p.m, on March 5, 2003.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970-243-6368.
Sinc~./~.J
Steve S.
