These materials will be
identified, excavated and removed from the import sites as identified in the attached
Management Plan for Miscellaneous Wastes, Idarado Legacy Project, Telluride,
Colorado prepared by MFG, Inc. In addition, MFG will collect representative samples
of the materials removed and further characterize these with regards to conventional
static acid generation and net neutralization potentials of the materials, such a further
understanding of the materials geochemical nature is fully understood prior to final
closure and reclamation of the proposed storage facilities.
These imported materials aze intended to be comprised of mining and milling related
materials previously exported from the Pandora milling operations or associated with
other historic operations prior to the Division's issuance of the reclamation regulations
(i.e., 1977). These mining and milling operations are located east of the Town of
Telluride between the eastern Town boundary and the Pandora milling operation.
Materials will be primarily comprised of mill related tailing materials previously used as
structural bedding material within the Idazado Pandora trailer pazk and Liberty Bell
housing site, waste rock and tailing materials from the historic Liberty Bell and Gold Run
milling operations, and broken foundation materials. The geochemical nature of the
materials is expected to be similaz to other tailing material deposits previously either
excavated or remediated at the Pandora mining and milling operations. Typically, the
average particle size will be plus or minus 40 mesh containing residual concentrations of
trace metals (i.e., lead, zinc, copper, etc.) contained within local ore deposits. Since only
limited quantities of materials have been excavated and removed from the development
azeas, the availability of materials for geochemical chazacterization has been limited.
