On July 13, 2004 District Wildlife Manager Travis Black visited the site.
The site lies along an existing drainage that is used by local wildlife, including deer, pheasant, coyote, fox and many
passerine birds. DWM Black noted that there appeared to be no noticeable reclamation performed on the site. DWM
Black did notice that some of the existing pit had been filled in with dirt in a roughed out manner. However, there was no
evidence of reseeding or further reclamation of the site.
Based on our observations, therefore it is not apparent that the site has been properly reclaimed to the minimum standazds
set by the Division of Minerals and Geology. We believe additional efforts should be taken to properly reclaim the site.
This should include reshaping the site to minimize slope and approximate drainage patterns prior to mining, reseeding of
native vegetation, and returning the site to a more natural state, which should, in tom make the site more usable for local
wildlife.
Thank you for providing us the opportutilty to comment. If you have any questions or require additional clarification
please feel free to contact Travis Black, District Wildlife Manager, at 719-336-6613.
Sincerely,
~~~'
Mazk Konishi
Regional Manager
Colorado Division of Wildlife
MK/TB/cas
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Russell George, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Philip James, Chair.
