~r ~: ~ ~ Climate ,. l<~s, S~S,~~ EXHIBIT K of ~ r4- ~1- ~ The subject site azea has a high plain, continental climate. With the mountains to the west, variations in temperature are wide. The average annual temperature is lower than in the high plains, and the temperature increases from east to west in the plains azea. Average annual precipitation also increases from east to west. In the high plains area, rainfall is light and humidity is low. Differences in altitude and exposure create great vaziations in both temperature and precipitation. In general, temperatures aze cooler at higher elevations, and northern exposures aze cooler than southern exposures. The average frost-free period ranges from 225 to 270 days. Annual precipitation ranges from about 13 to 24 inches and increase with elevation. In the eastern high plains area, the climate is modifies considerably from that expected of a typical high plains because of the nearby mountains to the west. The winds chazacteristic of the plains are reduced somewhat by the shielding effect of the mountains. Climate data for the site is assumed to be similaz to that of a weather station 3 miles south in Brighton, CO. The Western Regional Climate Center tracks temperature extremes and precipitation data for this station.
