~nks and Gesso, LLC
FJCHIBIT D: Mining Plan
Overview
The Applicant proposes to develop the site for mining and processing of sand
and gravel. Approximately 32.5 acres of the total permit area of approximately
52 acres is proposed for mining (see Exhibit C-3, Mining Plan Map). After mining
is complete, the excavated area will be reclaimed as awater-storage reservoir
surrounded by an engineered, im ermeable bentonite slur wall that will be
constructed arior to mining operations below aroun water eve s. e e des o
establishing itself.
gradually
The post-mining land use of the property is for water storage and wildlife habitat.
Mining Methods -Rule 6.4.4(a) ,//~
The Applicant proposes to dry-mine the property. Initial mining will occur in the '0
northern portion of the property and progress southward. Initial mining
operations will include stripping of topsoil and construction of a tailings pond at
the southern end of the property. A slurry trench will be constructed around the
perimeter of the property prior to commencement of mining operations below '
existing groundwater levels. The slurry wall will be located approximately at a 50 a
foot offset from the center line of Brighton Road on the east, and at an offset of /~
approximately 35 feet from the property line in other areas. Depiction of the ~„q`
slurry wall on the plans herein is based on field locations and may change ~ ~
according to field conditions.
In order to reduce the cost of slurry wall installation, the Applicant proposes to
excavate material across the site to an elevation of 5010 feet. This is
approximately 10 feet below the highest point on the property, but still
approximately 5 feet above existing groundwater levels. The top of cut for this aor ~
excavation will be located approximately 40 feet from the center line of Brighton

Road on the east, and approximately 25 feet from the property line in other `~
areas. Once an excavation elevation of 5010 feet is reached, slurry wall
construction will begin along the perimeter of the permit area. Upon completion
of slurry wall construction, the Applicant will backfill to original grade to a point
approximately 20 feet offset of the slurry wall. At this point mining will commence
~
below groundwater at a near vertical slope, with reclaimed reservoir wall '
backfilled to a minimum 3:1 slope.
Raw material will be excavated with front~end loaders, excavators, and tractors.
The material may be loaded on a field conveyor in the mining area and conveyed
back to the processing area, or some materials may be excavated with scrapers
or off-road haul trucks. Shale material may be pushed up with a bulldozer for
subsequent handling with the front-end loaders.
