Either sacked or bulk cement may be used. No fraction of
313 a sack of cement shall be used in a batch of concrete unless the cement is weighed.
314
315 All bulk cement shall be weighed on an approved weighing device. The bulk cement
316 weighing hopper shall be sealed and vented to preclude dusting during operation. The
317 discharge chute shall be so arranged that cement will not lodge in it or leak from it.
318
319 Separate storage and handling equipment shall be provided for the fly ash. The fly ash
320 may be weighed in the cement hopper and discharged with the cement.
321
322 (b) Water. Unless water is to be weighed, the water-measuring equipment shall include an
323 auxiliary tank from which the measuring tank shall be filled. The measuring tank shall
324 be equipped with an outside tap and valve to provide for checking the calibration unless
325 other means are provided for readily and accurately determining the amount of water in
326 the tank. The volume of the auxiliary tank shall be at least equal to that of the measuring
327 tank. In lieu of the volume method specified above, the Contractor will be permitted to
328 use a water metering device that is accurate within the prescribed limits.
329
330 (c) Aggregates. Aggregates from different sources and of different gradings shall not be
331 stockpiled together.
332
333 Aggregate shall be handled from stockpiles or other sources to the batching plant in such
334 manner as to secure a uniform grading of the material. Aggregates that have become
335 segregated, or mixed with earth or foreign material, shall not be used. All aggregates
336 produced or handled by hydraulic methods, and washed aggregates, shall be stockpiled
337 or binned far draining at least 12 hours before being batched. Rail shipment requiring
338 more than l2 hours will be accepted as adequate binning only if the car bodies permit

3-37
G:11011W 100.OMVteports\KV1TeU~niwl SpecificaLOns tloc Fabwry 3, 2006
