This work consists of the construction of riprap in accordance with these
specifications and in conformity with the Lines and grades shown on the plazas or established.
506.02 Materials. Riprap shall consist of hard, dense, durable stone, ~mgular in shape and
resistant to weathering. Rounded stone or boulders shall not be used as riprap material. The stone
shall have a specific gravity of at least 2.5. Each piece shall have its greatest dimension not
greater than three times its least dimension. Material used for riprap ma}r be approved by the
Engineer if, by visual inspection, the rock is determined to be sound and durable. The Engineer
may require the Contractor to furnish laboratory results if, in the Engineer's opinion, the material
is marginal or unacceptable. At the request of the Engineer, the Contractor shall famish
laboratory test results indicating that the material meets the requirements fir abrasion resistance
or compressive strength as indicated in Table 506-1.
Table 506-1
Test Descri tion Test Method S ecifiration Re uirement
Abrasion Resistance by Los Angeles ASTM C 535 5(1% Loss, max.
Machine
Unconfined Compressive Strength of

Drilled Core S ecimen AASHTO T 24 2500 psi,min.
Riprap shall conform to the gradation requirements given in Table 506-2.
G\1°11W1°°.02NWeporisU(P1Techniral Specihrations.Cac
3-26
1
1

February 3, Z°°6
