OVERVIEW OF AMENDMENT
The purpose of this amendment to our existing mining permit # M-1974-069 is to add a
7.74 acre parcel to the permit which will allow us to mine an additional cell #]0 of
approximately 6 acres. Drill logs indicate an overburden depth of approximately 60
inches and a gravel depth of approximately 19 feet.
This parcel (number 95164-00-043) is owned by Loveland Ready Mix Concrete, Inc.
(LRM) and abuts the existing permit area on the South immediately West of Wilson
Avenue and North of the City of Loveland sewer line. The pit run material from this cell
#10 will be hauled down an existing roadway approximately 1000 feet to the existing
crushing and wash plant.
Dewatering will be accomplished with a 6-inch electric pump. The water will be piped
into the two existing silt ponds where it will exfiltrate through the banks of these unlined
ponds back into the groundwater. No water will be discharged directly to the river so no
discharge permit will be required.
Excavation will be setback 100 feet from Wilson Avenue on the East and 50 feet from
the City of Loveland sewer line on the South of the parcel. The topsoil will be stripped
and stockpiled East of the cell between the excavation and Wilson Avenue
(approximately 4800 cy). The Eastem approximately 3 acres (1/2) of the cell will have
the overburden (22,000 cy) stripped and stockpiled on the Western %z of the cell until
gravel is removed from the first 3 acres. After the gravel is removed from this first area
the overburden stockpile and the overburden from the second 3 acres will be backfilled
into the Eastern portion of the excavation and used to slope the sides of the pit. Topsoil
will be spread over the fill area and over the top 15 feet of the slopes progressing from
East to West as the mining and backfilling progress. Grass seed will be planted in
accordance with the mix approved in our 2003 amendment.
The remaining excavation will become an open water pond of approximately 4 to 5 acres.
LRM has an approved Substitute Water Supply Plan (copy attached), which we will
amend to include this cell #10. LRM will add the extra evaporative loss to the
augmentation plan when our application gets approved by the Water Court, which will
satisfy the requirement of the SEO.
LRM anticipates there is approximately two years supply of gravel for the concrete
batching operation in cell #10 and mining will start in 2008 to 2010 and finish by 2014 at
the latest.
The only permanent man made structures within 200 feet of cell #10 are Wilson Avenue
and an 10" sewer line both owned by the City of Loveland.
