Long
Division Director
RE: Shavano Gravel Pit, Permit No. M-1983-208, Amendment No. 1 Preliminary Adequacy Review
Dear Mr. Conger:
DMG has completed the preliminary adequacy review of your application for an Amendment to Permit
No. M-1983-208 for the Shavano Gravel Pit. The application cannot be approved until the following
issues are adequately addressed. Please submit a response to the following issues as soon as
possible, but no later than May 3, 2002 so the decision due date set for May 13, 2002 can be met. If
you cannot respond by May 3, 2002, please submit a written request for extension of the decision date.
If your response, or an extension request, are not received by May 3, 2002 this application may be
denied.
ADEQUACYISSUES
Exhibit C -Mining Plan Map
1. Please show the name of the owner(s) of all structures on or within 200 feet of the proposed
affected area. Based on this map and discussions during the pre-operational inspection, DMG
assumes the new affected area boundary to be the proposed permit boundary. If this is incorrect
please clarify and illustrate the proposed affected area boundary.
2. It appears that additional excavation is proposed for the area north of the mined out area, up to
within 25 feet of the north boundary. Please clarify which areas are to be mined and adjust the
acreage figures on the map accordingly.
3. If the mining plan is to result in a near flat pit floor, it would follow that the areas to be daylighted
would have an excavation limit that follows the contour of the daylighted slope. Please correct this
apparent discrepancy.
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
4. In order for the proposed alternate access road to be addressed in the future as a technical
revision, DMG must assume that the corridor allowed for the access road is included in the
proposed affected area. Therefore, all structures within 200 feet of the permit boundary around the
proposed alternate access road must be included in No. 1 above.
