This material is inert, and contains only decomposed
granite and topsoil. There are no old or existing mines or other sources of toxic material in
the area where the material originated. The material was removed from County Road 306
after the azea experienced 3" of rain in one hour, and the loose material from the mountain
slid down onto the road and had to be removed. This material is only a small portion of
the 40,000 tons road clean-up project, and is stocked in the southwest corner of the
previously mined 8 acres of Pit #6. This area has been slow to grow vegetation due to poor
soil. T believe the material from the County itosd 306 clean-up will give the previously
mined area a boost (certainly it will not detract from it). Chaffee County would like to
spread the material in this area with a dozer at a depth of approximately 8" to 24".
The pile consists of approximately 1550 tons.
If you have questions or need additional information, please contact me at the number
_ _above, or you may call Joe Nelson, Road Superintendent, at 719-539-4591. _
Sincerely,
~~ ~~
Cheri Moore
Road and Bridge Clerk
