M-88-112
Technical Revision No. 0(18
Results of Monitoring Well Network Evaluation
Dear Dr. Pendleton:
Enclosed with this letter are three copies of BMR's repurt concerning its evaluation
of the groundwater monitoring well network fur your review. This evaluative report is
submitted in compliance with Abatement Requirement Nu. 6, which was imposed pursuant
to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board's ("Board") May 28, 1992 Order, and
Technical Revision No. 003, which was approved by the Board un June 29, 1992.
This evaluative repurt concludes that, given the site's hydrologic chatacteristics, the
existing monitoring wall network is adequate for its identified functions and that additional
monitoring wells are not necessary for monitoring groundwater in the vicihity of the San
Luis Project's tailings facility. Based on these results, and as contemplatad in Technical
Revision No. 008, BMR does not propose additional monitoring well locations for the
tailings facility.
BMR notes that the report concludes that the existing monitoring well network may
not be sufficient to remedia[e all possible releases from the tailings facility and that
additional remediation wells could be installed in the event that a tailings facility release is
detected to control the hydraulic gradient. As you know, specific plans fqr groundwater
containment will be addressed by BMR in the groundwater containment plan which BMR
will complete pursuant to Technical Revision No. 11119.
