The meeting
should be held as soon as practicable, but at least two (2) weeks prior to the deadline for
public comments (currently Apri123, 2007).
The Coaldale Community Building would be an appropriate place to hold this meeting.
You can contact Sn~anne Tonnesen at (719) 942-3935 for more information. A local
meeting would ensure a majority of the neighbors a$'ected by this action would be able to
attend and have their questions and concerns addressed by the State and the Facility.
It appears that the existing permit was issued in 1977. The neighborhood has grown
considerably since then. In addition, adverse environmental issues surrounding mining
have also been identified since then. A few of the issues that need to be addressed include:
- What actions will be taken to ensure that our surface and ground (well) water will
not be affected? Will there be ground water monitoring?
- What actions will be taken to alleviate the dust and dirt which could affect our
health and the vegetation grown in the azea (i.e., gardens, hay)?
- What actions will be taken to ensure that other toxins (i.e., azsenic, asbestos)
disturbed by the mining of gypsum do not affect our health and the environment?
- How much road damage will result from the haul trucks? Who will make repairs
and how often?
- How will safety on the local roads be affected (i.e., school children walking to
and from bus stops, people riding horses, visitors to the public lands and camping
facilities on County Road 6)?
- What will be the hours of operation? What will the noise level be? How will this
affect our property values?
The intent is not to close down operations, but to ensure that the operations minimize the
effect on our community and the environment. Your eazliest attention to this matter will
be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
/~u.n.o,...~ PaTF.Q~.aar,
SI.I.SPc*V 'PP~TTE.Rb~nl
Poo a,~~
C.o~o-,.~, c~ $t'~Z~
