Request For Amendment
Enciosed is a request for amendment for mining p rmit # M-85-
212 which is held by Neil C . Sprague and Arlis M Sorag e aka Arkins
Park Stone Corp . The amendment is for the portion Known as Arkins
Park South . On Site G , Trulop quarry , delete 1 . 84 acr s , which was
never disturbed , and add it to site F which now to] lows the general
contour of the mountain as the west , south and north b undaries and
the old railroad bed as the east boundary . Add site J wnicn is
approximately 9 . 4 acres of which about 5 acres will actually be
disturbed quarry ground and the balance will be usec for storage
and processing of stone . This is an ideal area for the work as for
the most part , it is out of site behind the ridge ol mountain to
the west of Co . Rd . 27 .
Over the process of time we have found that many times
quarries must be abandoned because the stone in the quarry becomes
too thick to be marketabie . Therefore we feel that tne purchase of
a new type of block saw would be advantageous in that it would
provide a use for the heretofore unusable larqe blocks . Also , most
of the demand for stone is for flagstone , 1 "-2 thick . This type
of product can be manufactured out of the large blocks that are now
only building up waste in the rio-rap pile . This rew operation
will be helpful to the environment in that it wil I lessen the
buildup of waste stone in the quarries and keep the ri -rap smaller
so it will be useable for lake till and ditch rip-ra .
The saw and building will be accessible for our trucks to
bring blocks for processing from roads on our own preinises . There
should not be a lot of additional traffic generated on north County
Road 27 .
According to our records we had 1584 customer transactions
last year . For a 300 day work year , it would average a few more
than 5 customer transactions per bay plus an average or 10
employees cars ( including those that car pool ) , coming in for work
or 15 per day . I would expect tnat the new operatiot would , over
a length of time , increase our traffic by 25% or per aos average
4 to 5 more per day . Since most of our transactions are a full
truce, ioa❑ deiivery , which we often make ourselves , tie saw may be
operatirq several days netore a load of material wot ld be ready .
ne gener& public will not oe permitted at the saw b ilding or in
oiiarry areas . This operation will be establisned in Site E as
rirst choice or Site h as second choice .
