The
use of reinforced vegetation was an
improvement chosen by Wtthlta's cit-
izens and, from a neighborhood plan-
ning standpoint, It preserves and visu-
ally enhances the desirability of the
residential azea. I.ScW
Based an design analysis and the wmbination of hard armor and C~TRM reinforced
vegetaeon, the lining would provide an eHeetiv4 aonomkal, and pemtanem form of erosion
proleetion. The lining also softened the overall antheties of the channel az wmparad to
the use or Just hard armor,
the various types of TRMs," says
Warren. 'If you get a heavy rain with
other 100% synthetlc TRMs that often
require soli filling, you often have to
go back and do the earthwork over
again because they don't offer the
same level of erosion protection avail-
able with a GTRM. Immediate erosion
control performance is one of the
biggest posidves with this product"
Warren says that another good
aspect of the C-TRM 1s that the
coconut fiber gives it excellent
mulching capabilities. It isn't neces-
sary to use straw or a mulching mate-
rial during the seeding grocers. If it
rains or the azea is watered, the
coconut helps retain moisture and
germination comes quicker.
To stabilize the sides of the chan-
nel, the slopes were graded, compact-
ed and seeded with Fescue, Rye and
Bermuda Grass, The C-TRM was then
installed using approximately 3.8 sta-
ples per square yazd on top of the i
prepared seeded slopes.
Green-Glo Turf Maintenance
Landscaping, based in Valley Center,
Just outside of Wichita, Kansas, han-
dled the Snstalladon of the turf mat-
ting. The company was the subcon-
tractor to CorneJo & Sons, who did the
canal excavation work, the wire
gabfon baskets, and concrete 1ns[alla-
dan. Green-Glo did the seeding work,
installed the mattNg and planted trees
and shrubs all along this entire prot-
ect.
'We ended up installing a lot
more of the matting than the city Ini-
tially planned on using" says Tony
W[Iber, Co-Owner of Green-Glo.
'They liked it so much that they had
us go up higher on the banks. Prior to
this project, I never used anything
exactly like this matting. It isn t going
to go away in a few years, it is per-
manent."
Wilber's crew didn't need heavy
equipment far the job. The C-TRM
r"
This sect' t%~.
