Table DS-1. (Continued) Descriptions of wetlands on the D & S Mining Properties. Refer to
Table DS-2 for lists of s ecies observed in these wetland areas.
Wetland
Location Photo
Number(s) Descri lions and Comments
P
Jurisdictional Status
These wetlands occur in an irrigation ditch that
is located on the west and north side of the site
and occasionally carries water from the MFM
Along irrigation Farms property. A small amount of standing Non-jurisdictional-
ditch DS-8 water was noted in a portion of the ditch. Ditch excavated in
(W-DS6) Mostly the ditch is very well-vegetated with upland area.
reed canary grass occurring as the dominant
.species. Hydrophytic species accounted for 59
ercent of the observed s ecies,
These wetlands occur along the saturated ditch
margins and low areas along the irrigation
ditch on the west side of the property. Water
in the ditch is diverted from Big Dry Creek, just Non-jurisdicfional-
upstream from its confluence with the South Ditch excavated in
Along irrigation Platte River. A marsh has developed in the low upland area.

ditch DS-9 and area along the west side of the ditch. There
Hydrology

~ C7) DS-10 were 2-3 inches of standing water th the lowest
dependent on water
part of this area. Major species include reed
' diverted from Big
canary grass, common cattail, chairmaker
s Dry Creek
rush, Baltic rush and common spikerush
(Eleocharis macrostachya). Hydrophytic species
accounted for 75 percent of the observed
s ecies.
This is a small segment of excavated ditch that
apparently is used to carry irrigation return
Along small flows from adjacent field. Soils were saturated Non-jurisdictional
irrigation ditch DS-11 at the surface, but there was no standing water Isolated- not
(W-DSS) in the ditch. Major species include reed canary connected with
grass and species of knotweed. Hydrophytic existing drainages
species accounted for 67 percent of the
observed s ecies.
This wetland occurs east of the irrigation ditch
and extends eastwazd onto the adjacent
property. This fs the largest wetland
(approximately 25 acres) encountered on any
of the properties included in the study. The
source of water appears to be surface run-off as
well as groundwater. The area is a closed basin Non-jurisdictional
(W-DS9) DS-12 and and does not drain. Soils are fine-grained and Isolated- not
DS-13 somewhat saline. The northern porfion of the connected with
area had standing water throughout the 2004 existing drainages
growing season. Soils were saturated at the
surface throughout most of the area. Major
species include chaumaker's rush, inland
saltgrass, foxtail barley and Baltic rush.
Hydrophytic species accounted for 71 percent
of the observed s ies.
-49-
