Table N-1. Descriptions of wetlands on the Norden Property. Refer to Table N-2 for fists of
s ecies observed in these wetland areas.
Wetland
Location Photo
Number(s) Descriptions and Comments Jurisdictional Status
This wetland occurs in the saturated zones
along the tributary to Big Dry Creek. Major
Wetlands Along species th this wetland include blister Jurisdictional -
Tributary to Big
N 1 buttercup (Ranunculus sceleratus), knotweed Connected to other
Dry Creek (Persicaria spp.) and Nuttall's alkali grass jurisdictional
(W-Nl) (Puccinellia nuttalliana). In all, hydrophytic wetlands
species accounted for 64 percent of the
observed s ecies.
This wetland area includes m the salt marsh/
salt meadow in the southwestern part of the
site and includes the channel that drains the
area. This channel eventually connects with
the tributary to Big Dry Creek. Major species in
Saline Marsh in this area include chaumaker's rush, knotweed
' jurisdictional -
southwestern N-2 and and Nuttall
s alkali grass. This wetland Connected to other
part of property N-3 extends onto the adjacent property where it is jurisdictional
(W N2) not grazed. Differences in the grazed and non- wetlands
grazed parts of the wetland can be seen ar
Photo N-3. Hydrophytic species accounted for
92 percent of the observed species. If this area
is not mined, it could possibly be used as a
potential mitigation area as a site for wetland
im rovement.
Wetland W-N3 includes two small wetlands
that have developed in depression th the
upland parts of the site. These may be
Two small ephemeral drainages that collect enough water
wetlands frequently enough to support wetland
Not Jurisdictional -
adjacent to N-4 vegetation. Major species in these areas Isolated
access road included chairmaker's rush, inland saltgrass
(W-N3) (Distichlis stricta) and common spikerush
(Eleacharis macrostachya). Hydrophytic species
accounted for 91 percent of the observed
s Gies.
Excavated Pond This area is a wetland because of the shallow Not Jurisdictional -
in northwest
N 5 water habitats that are present near the Isolated.
corner of site shoreline. There were very few wetland plants Excavated in and
(YV-N4) noted alon the shoreline of the ond. u land azea.
-20-
