STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of NaWral Resources
1313 Sherman SL, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
DIVISION OF
MINERALS
GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION
MINING•SAFETY
April 22. 2003
Don Gosnev
Gosnev and Sons. Inc.
PO BoY 367
Bavfield. CO 81122
Re: Bavfield Pit #1, Permit NI-1987-038_ Review of Bond Amount. Bond Reduction Indicated.
Dear Mr. Gosnev,
Bill Owens
Governor
Greg E. Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Acting Division Director
I have reviewed the bond amount for the permitted site named above, and find that a reduction in bond amount
appears to be possible. This review was based on the currently-approved reclamation plan in the file, the recently-
approved technical revision, and the conditions observed while onsite during the Division's 4/l6/03 inspection.
The technical revision allows the use of a material other than topsoil to be used as a growth medium. The recent
inspection verified that nearly all required slope grading had been performed adequately.
The current bond amount is $44,437. The current recalculation indicates a bond requirement of $27,938, which is a
reduction of $16.499. The pages contained in the enclosed packet show all the separate tasks considered to still be
required, and their costs. You will note [hat the largest single cost is associated with revegetation tasks.
You have not requested a bond reduction vet, and this office cannot reduce your bond at this time. However. at any
time cou may submit a bond reduction request to this office, and we will act on it. Please review Construction
Materials Rule 4.13 and Rule 4.16 for the required steps to follow for this request. If your request is submitted in
the near firture, another inspection may not be needed.
Please look over the enclosed task sheets and contact me if you notice an error or omission_ or have questions about
the figures. If you need new bond forms or wish to discuss the types of bonds accepted by the state. please contact
Nls. Suzi Ericksen at the Divisions Denver office (see letterhead). [f you wish to discuss the figures in this packet
please contact me directly at the Divisions Durango field office: 701 Camino del Rio. Room 12~_ Durango.
