Soil: Limon silty clay loam, 0 to 2 % slopes
Map Unit: LnA
General Description: This is a deep, well-drained soil that formed on alluvial fans and terraces in clayey
alluvium. The slope is up to about 5%. This soil gullies quite readily and some of the gullies can be up to 10
feet deep. Permeability is slow and the available water capacity is high. Surface layers are moderately
alkaline, but deeper zones can be moderately to strongly alkaline. Rooting is deep.
Related Soils: Razor soils compose about 5% of the acreage.
Range Site: Salt Flats
General Characteristics - If in excellent condition and in a good year, production can be
up to about 2,000 Ibs/acre per year, but only about 800 pounds in other years. About 85
of the production is useful for cattle.
Major Plant Species -Potential community: 53% alkali sacaton, 15% western wheatgrass,
10% saltgrass, 5%galleta, 5% fourwing saltbush, 5% alkaligrass, and 5% blue grama, 1%
buffalograss, and 1 % rabbitbrush.
With heavy grazing the western wheatgrass, alkali sacaton, and fourwing saltbush
decline or disappear leaving saltgrass, blue grama, and galleta. Severe grazing causes a
change to annual fortis (weeds), rabbitbrush, greasewood, and perennial fortis.
Wildlife Habitat Suitability:
Suitability of soil for elements of wildlife habitat -
Irrigated Non-irrigated
Grain and seed crops: Fair Poor
Grasses and legumes: Fair Poor
Wild herbaceous plants: ------- Fair
Hardwood trees: ------- ---------
Coniferous plants: ------- ---------
Shrubs: Good Fair
Wetland plants: ------- Poor
Shallow water areas: ------- Very poor
Suitability of soil for kinds of wildlife -
Openland: Fair Poor
Woodland: --------- ---------
Wetland: --------- Very poor
Rangeland: Fair Fair
