SHELTO N, Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
DATE: November 27, 1985
T0: Jeff Deckler /
FROM: Candace Thompson Ci
RE: New Elk - Pond 006 and 007 TR
After review of the comments submitted by Wyoming Fuels to address the
Division's adequacy concerns for this TR and after phone conversations with
Steve Magneson and David Stout of Wyoming Fuels, the TR for sediment ponds 007
and 006 is acceptable.
Mr. Magneson communicated that Wyoming Fuels would like, at some time in the
future, to revise the standpipe/gated principle spillway structure to allow
for a non-gated design. At the time of submittal of such revised design, the
operator must also revise the state storage curve for Pond 007.
Wyoming Fuels is committing to surveying their ponds once per year in the late
fall or early winter after heavy run-off in order to determine the available
sediment storage volume. If, in the future, Pond 007 appears to be
accumulating sediment at a higher rate than is presently occurring, the
Division could require the operator to survey sediment volumes in the pond on
a more frequent basis.
CT/cj
5249E

423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
