Soil Sampling Plan and Weed Control Plan
Prior to application of topsoil to reclaim areas, soil sampling will be performed on topsoil
areas to ascertain need and rate of application of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium.
Soil samples will be tested via Colorado State University agricultural laboratory and
application rates will be geared to high altitude native grass support levels. In the event
that soil sampling results reflect adequate levels of NPK for native grass establishment,
no fertilizer application is planned.
The site will monitored each season for weedy species identification and evaluation of
weed influx onto the site, especially those azeas recently disturbed and under re-
vegetation. Chaffee County weed control specialists will be contacted to perform a site
review and recommendation for action plan if deemed necessazy. During 2006, Canadian
Thistle was identified within the recently seeded Taylor Gulch area. The specimens
identified were dug up and removed from the site.
Lilly Mines Grass and Forbe Seed Mix
The following grass and forbe seed mix is a seed mix modified from the generic high
altitude seed mix recommendation from the USFS files, with additions and variety
changes to reflect the results of vegetation sampling taken at the site during July, 2005:
PLS/ac % of seeds Species Common Name Price/PLS Ib
7.20 13.05% Elymus trachycaulus Slender Wheatgrass $1.75
2.40 50.59% Trisetum spicatum Spike Trisetum $30.00
1.20 11.80% Poa glauca Tundra Bluegrass $15.00
0.48 4.05% Phleum alpinum Alpine Timothy $55.00
0.36 2.28% Festuca thurberi Thurber's Fescue $55.00
0.24 4.75% Senecio atratus Groundsel $125.00
0.12 13.49% Epilobium angustifolium Fireweed $250.00
12.00 PLS lbs./acre Price/PLS lb $17.40
16
