Geotechnical Data Technical Memorandum
Hazeltine -Road Runners Rest II Gravel Pit Lining Project
December 2000
4.0 LABORATORY AND FIELD TESTING
4.1 General
Field testing was performed during drilling and consisted of standard penetration tests in alluvial
soils and packer permeability tests in the bedrock. Data from standard penetration tests are
provided on the boring logs in Appendix A and summarized in Section 5. Data from packer
testing is provided in Appendix B and summarized in Section 4.3.
Laboratory tests were performed on representative samples of the alluvium and bedrock from
' the borings and on representative samples of potential borrow materials. Tests were performed
by Goodson & Associates, Inc. and Advanced Terra Testing, Inc. under subcontract to GEI.
Tests on alluvial samples consisted of sieve analyses. Sieve analyses, Atterberg limits,
' unconfined compression, and permeability tests were performed on bedrock core samples. Tests
on proposed borrow materials consisted of sieve analyses, Atterberg Limits, Standard Proctor,
triaxial shear and permeability on remolded specimens. A summary of the laboratory testing
program and the firms that performed the tests is presented in Table 4.1. Test results are
provided in Appendix E, and discussed in Sections 4.2 through 4.4.
4.2 Alluvial Soils
' Laboratory sieve analyses were conducted on the alluvial samples to determine the distribution
of gravel, sand, and fines. Results of laboratory sieve analyses on alluvial soils are summarized
in Table 4.2. Grain size curves are in Appendix E.
ve_ispm ~m wpe
4-I ~ GEI Consultants, Inc.
