Riley Gravel Pit
Mining Method to be Employed
Exhibit D
Mining Plan
The New pi[ is approximately 19.09 aches in size. The potenlial mineral material reserves of rock and soil
are 260,000 cubic yards. Approximately 15,000 cubic yards will be removed a yeaz.
The maximum disturbed area of the pit shall be approximately 16.5 acres, with an excavation depth to be
approxitately 70' at a maximum. The overburden stockpile at present prior to conversion is
approximately 6,000 yds, with an expected overall stockpile at the end of training to be 16,500 yds. The
topsoil stockpile at present is approximately 4,500 yds. With and expected overall stockpile at the end of
mining to be 9,800 yds. Approximately 3,500 yds will be hauled in to complete reclamation.
The maxim seam thickness to be mined will be 70'. The pit area receives 20" of precipitation a year.
Surface water is generally not present in the permit area. The mining operation will not intersect any
sources of ground water. During operations, the pit will be termed tvith material piles or topsoil piles to
contain any overland flow from storm events.
The mine life is approximately ten (1 Oj years. Due to the small staging area and the pit area there will be
limited sequential reclamation during operation. As mining progresses to the northeast, the staging area
will also shift to the northeast. Reclamation work will begin at the southwest End of the project area and
progress toward the east as miming progresses and as space allows.
Mining equipment will consist of one entsher with a capacity of 105 tons per hour and usually one front-
end loader and one crawler tractor. The crawler tractor will push material across the pit where it will be
loaded by a front-end loader into the crusher. Crushed material will be stockpiled at the west end of the pit.
Typically no more than twelve truckloads will be hauled per day.
A steel gate with warning signs will be placed at the entrance to the pit to restrict access [o unauthorized
personnel. The pit will be patrolled on a regular basis to inspect for damage and to remove litter and illegal
dumping. Jackson County Weed Control will control all noxious weeds. No inoperable equipment or
equipment not related to the mining operation wilt be stored at the site.
