Colorado
irEC Project No. 1994026
)\4r. Pancher:
As requested, a senior engineer from Earth En,ineering Consultants_ Inc. (ECC) has
reviewed the information provided for the proposed linin~~ of Loveland Ready-Mia Pond
#1 in Loveland, Colorado. "fhe Loveland Ready-\1is Pond #I is located west of
Namaqua Road immediately north of the Bi; Thompson River and encompasses
approximateh 20 acres. This area was formerly used as an aggregate source and is now
proposed for use as a lined storage pond to provide augmentation water to the Big
Thompson River.
The mining excavation at Pond #I extended ki a depth of approximately 16 l0 20 feet
below surrounding ground surface. During the mining operation. the overburden s~~ils
were dozed off of the mineable aggregate and stockpiled on site The base o1 the
excavation extends to silty sandy claystone bedrock. With the adjacent flows in the Bi_
'l~hompson River, it is anticipated the depth to ground~~nter is rclati~eh shallo~c in the
area when pumping for the minims operations ceases.
.4 cross section diagram of the proposed lining is attached. "fhe low permeability lad a of
the lining wilt be constructed of the stockpiled overburden soils placed in 8 feet ~cide
staggered lifts. The interior facing of the empondment will be composed of bedrock
CENTRE FOR AOVANGED TECHNOLOGY
2301 RESEARCH BOULEVARD, SUITE I O4
FORT COLLINS, COLORADO BO526
(970) 224-1522 (FA%) 224-4564
