(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-t 98n_t 94
INSPECTION DATE: 9-tn-m INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ~IIL
OBSERVATIONS
Completed an inspection of this operation pursuant to requirements of Rule 4.16.2(2) after the Division received a request
for release of reclamation responsibility from the permittee.
This is a 7 acre 110 Limited Impact permit located about 1 mile south of Peyton on the east side of Peyton highway.
The site is adequately graded pursuant to the approved mining and reclamation plans. Topsoil (growth medium) has been
replaced and the site has been re-seeded (a couple of years ago). The approved seed mix contains Sand Bluestem, Little
Bluestem, Sand Reedgrass, Blue Grama and Sideoats Grama. The current vegetative cover consists mostly of Russian thistle
and Kochia with some crested wheatgrass, blue grams and sweetclover. Vegetative cover (density and diversity) does not
meet the requirements of the approved permit or the ActlRules and Regulations so, therefore, the site can not be released.
The site needs to be reseeded. However, the operator should review the permit file to determine what the approved seed
mix consists of so the right species can be planted. The above noted seed mix was found on page 2 of a 1979 Soil
Conservation Recommendation (which EI Paso County Committed to). The seeding rate is included in the recommendation.
After reseeding the disturbed areas, the permittee should consider a weed control plan (mowing, spraying, etc) to keep
down the Kochia and Russian thistle. The SCS recommends seeding in May or June.
Once the vegetative cover is as good as or better than the adjoining undisturbed areas, the operator can submit another
request for release.
Even though the site is unvegetated, it is still stable (which is understandable in a drought year).
Did not observe any serious problems.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Chuck McCullah
OPERATOR: EI Paso County
STREET: 3460 N.
