The South Platte River is a valuable wildlife corridor in the Denver Metro area, and we would encourage
a buffer between the mined area and the river itself. Maintaining the vegetative (including trees)
structure is important for this resource, and we would discourage fencing that would unnecessarily keep
wildlife from adequately using this travel corridor. Perhaps the fence around the reservoir could be less
obtrusive than a 6' fence with barbed wire, although we certainly do understand the issues of liability.
As [he mining operations will penetrate the ground water table, appropriate water quality standards
should be monitored and achieved. Mitigation for evaporative loss should also be completed.
If you have any questions, or would like to further discuss any of the conunents made in this letter,
please contact me at your convenience - 970-295-5657.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this and other projects,
Sincerely
Eric Odell
Habitat Biologist
Colorado Division of Wildlife
