4 Recommendations
Prior to implementing either Option 1 or 2, it is recommended that CEMEX prepare a
detailed design for the implemented option, as necessary, to develop the specific
equipment and material needs and the pumping and additive application rate required for
efficient and effective treatment. A full chemical analysis of the C-Pit water for major
cations and anions, pH, and total alkalinity (including the titration curve) is also
recommended to determine the amount of additive necessary to adjust the pH to
approximately 8. It is suggested that an analysis of the sodium bisulfate is also
performed prior to use so that trace constituents that may be present in the chemical
additive, and are regulated in ground or surface waters, are not introduced into the C-Pit
water. It is also recommended that a laboratory bench-scale treatability evaluation be
performed prior to finalizing the selection of either carbon dioxide or sodium bisulfate as
an amendment to determine its application rate and effectiveness in adjusting pH.
CEMEX Water Treatment Plan $ Revision 0
