NONTECNNI CAL SDSLS DESCRSP720N REPORT
ueldrge
Map ~ Soil name and description
Symbol
Av ~ Ava Lon sandy loam, 2 to 5 percent slopes
This unit is suited for irrigated hay and pasture.
Furrow, drip, end sprinkler irrigation is suited to
this soil. Irrigation water needs to be applied at a
rate [hat insures optimum production without increasing
deep percolation, runoff, end erosion. Use of pipe
reduces eater Loss and deep percolation. Tilth and
fertility can be improved by returning crop residue to
the soil and using a suitable rotation, Excessive
cultivation can result in the formation of a tillage
pan. This pan can be broken by subsoiling when the
soil is dry. Because of the undulating topography and
slope, onsite investigations are needed before
leveling. Care should be Taken in leveling designs to
avoid cuts into unsuitable soil material.
This unit consists of very deep, well drained soils on
intermediate valley terraces. These soils formed in
loess modified alluvium derived dominantly from mixed
shale and sandstone sources. The surface layer is
sandy loam about 3 inches thick. The upper 14 inches
of the subsoil are loam, and the loner 13 inches are
clay loam. The upper 12 inches of the substratum are
clay loam, and the loner part to a depth of more then
60 inches is gravelly loam. Permeability of this soil
is moderate. Available water capacity is high.
Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or mare. Runoff
~ is slow, and the hazard of eater erosion is slight.
This unit is considered prime farmland.
Capability Subclass 3E; irrigated; 7C; nonirrigated
