Memo to Tom Schreiner 11 February 21, 2006
Bulkhead Cost Estimate Permit No. M-1983-141
temperature shrinkage rebaz at both ends of the bulkhead is #6 bars on 12 inch centers, both ways
stainless steel bypass and monitoring piping is necessary
Concrete will use maximum'/a inch aggregate, Type V cement, 16 percent fly ash, pozzolan,
water/cement ratio of 0.45 by weight, and will be over sanded to enhance pumpability
Bulkhead Construction Cost Estimate
DMG has estimated the cost to install the two proposed bulkheads, and to backfill the adit outby the
secondary bulkhead with impervious fill, at $328,161.00. This estimated cost includes all indirect costs and
the five percent administration cost required by statute. The estimated costs are detailed in the worksheets
enclosed with this memo. The estimate uses adjusted unit costs incurred during the construction of the
Terry Tunnel bulkhead in the Sunnyside Mine during the mid-1990s. A copy of the detailed Terry Tunnel
bulkhead costs is also enclosed with this memo.
Verification of Bulkhead Effectiveness
For water impounding bulkheads in underground mines to be effective, there must be no direct
hydrogeologic connection between the impounded mine pool and surface water bodies. Ground water
tracers are a means to determine if such connections aze present. Initially, DMG will require that the
Applicant provide a plan to trace the current, existing pool of water in the Cash Mine. It is imperative to
inoculate the mine pool with tracer before spring 2006 storm season and snowmelt, if mining is to occur in
2006, in order to investigate intermittent drainage in the vicinity for presence of the tracer. The Applicant
must provide a tracer study plan for DMG review and approval no later March 15, 2006 in order to
commence the investigation no later than Apri13, 2006. Additional tracer investigations will be required
during the life of mine, particularly prior to installation of adit bulkhead seals at the end of operations; these
future tracer investigations will be the subject of a forthcoming memorandum.
Bibliography
FORTHCOMING
enclosure(s)
cc: Matt Collins, Mount Royale Ventures (via regular mail and facsimile transmission, w/enclosures)
Mazk Steen, (via regular mail and facsimile transmission, both c% Mt.
