Posey
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 802D3
RE:
Dear Mr. Posey:
y,~~F~
601D 001
Our response to the divisions comments in your lettetc of June
2, 1992 is as follows:
Comment 1: With respect to the observation in your comment
concerning cyanide stratification in the pond, the results of
pond homogeneity testing by BEI, which you should have by now,
shows only a minor difference between samples taken from the
pond surface and taken at depth for both wad cyanide ak3d copper
content.
We intend to repeat the pond homogeneity sampling for wad
cyanide and copper in the same manner as in the first test
after treating the pond with the initial HZOZ applicatlion. The
initial application will be made under the direction of a
technical representative of the peroxide supplier who has
performed a number of similar cyanide detoxification services
previously. The technical representative will provide training
to San Luis personnel and will monitor peroxide appliclation and
analyze results in his portable laboratory. Adequate samples
will be taken and analyzed on the spot utilizing the Picric
Acid method to aid in determining how many samples and sampling
locations will be required to adequately characterize the pond
contents. Verification samples (splits) will be taken and
submitted to an outside laboratory for analysis.
5670 GREED WOOD PLAZA BLV D. cpITE 106 ENGLEWOOD, CO BOIIi (303)721 b7m FAX (303)721 b813
