d^
There are two rhizomatous noxious weed perennials that we are now aware of
within the DMG permitted boundary, Canada Thistle and Oxeye Daisy. It is our
intention to contain and eradicate these weeds aided by supervision from the
County. We will use a small backpack type sprayer and patrol the property every
other week using the County suggested herbicides for the above mentioned
weeds. Redeem will be used on the Thistle and Escort or Cimarron for the Daisy.
The herbicides will be mixed with water per container instructions with an added
non ionic surfactant to aid in plant penetration. The County recommends that the
herbicides be applied when growth of sufficient leaf surface is noticeable but
before flowering. The leaves will be sprayed just to the point of runoff, rendering
them wet but not soaked. Since these weeds proliferate via seed and root, proper
application is essential for containment. These herbicides do not contain any 2 4
D for immediate and noticeable death, rather, we were encouraged to use these
products due to their characteristic systemic root penetration properties. Killing
the seed pod isn't enough; these weeds need to have the roots attacked to
ensure extermination. San Miguel County also has a cost share program
available to users of these products whereby funds are available for
reimbursement of 50% of total product cost.
As spring and summer approach, Sheila Grother has committed her time to a site
walk and herbicide application review procedure. We will be using her guidance
and recommendations to verify that our weed management program is working
and has sustaining effect on these and other noxious weed we may encounter. In
all probability, we anticipate other weeds that will be on the San Miguel County
list for eradication.
ohn Dourlet
VP Pathfinder Development
