wells was controlled so that a constant discharge could be maintained throughout the duration
of the test. Water level drawdowns in each well were measured by means of an electric water
' level probe installed in the pumping well.
' It was originally intended to use the other wells as observation points during each of the pump
' tests; however, due to the extremely low flow rates and the limited time frame in which to
complete the pump tests, observation wells were not used in this test program.
A summary of the aquifer hydraulic characteristics obtained from these pump tests is presented
' in Table 2. After each of the pump tests had been completed, and water levels had stabilized
at a static level, a complete set of water level measurements was obtained from these wells on
' July 20, 1992. A summary of these water level data, and the corresponding water level
elevation, is presented in Table 3. The triangulation of these water level elevation data indicate
that the local ground water gradient is parallel to the stream channel, generally with ground
water flow moving from east-northeast to west-southwest down valley, as expeoted.
' Water Quality Sampling
During each of the pump tests, water quality samples were obtained from the pump discharge
' for periodic checks of total and free cyanide concentrations. These samples were delivered to
Core Laboratories for analysis. The liming of each of these samples during the pmmp tests, and
' the associated results, are presented in Table 4. The chain-of-custody forms ark presented in
Appendix C and the Core Labs analytical report is presented in Appendix D.
As Table 4 shows, no cyanide species were identified during any portion of the pump tests at
' the monitoring wells below the tailings facility and collection pond, with the exception of a free
cyanide value at the detection limit (0.02 rng/L) in well )\4-13 (total cyanide concentration from
' the same sample was below the detection limit [0.02 mg/L]) (Table 4). A weak acid dissociable
' (WAD) cyanide analysis was then conducted on this sample to confirm that no cyanide was
present. The WAD cyanide analysis also reported no detectable cyanide.
' -5-
