STATE OF COLORADO
Bill Owens,Governor `p1L)RIpO
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER e
Russell George,Director
SM Broadway For Wildlife-Telephone:Denver,Colorado 80216 if
Telephone:(303)227-1192 For People
MINED LAND WILDLIFE STATEMENT/ EVALUATION (Revised)
For limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land Reclamation Board in
their consideration of a mining permit for:
T20s.R7lw-S-ec. 23 Fremont County
NametType and Location of Mine (Legal)
Wildlife Species List:
Typical shortgrass upland wildlife species
Various passerine birds
Black bear
Mule deer
Elk
Small mammfds
Red tailed hawk
Endangered/ Critical Species/ Impacted:
None known at this time
Critical Habitats/vegetative Communities Impacted:
Area contains shortgrass prairie with shallow soils.
Shallow drainages carrying seasonal flows to the Oak Creek drainage are close proximity to mining
operations.
Assessment of Impact:
The shortgrass prairie will continue to be disturbed in and around the work area and an additional 15
acres of grassland will be impacted by this expansion of operations. Due to the existing operation on this
site there will be few to no new impacts on wildlife. With the expansion of this site there will be an
increased non-vegetated surface area and thus an increase in erosion from water and wind events.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations(include key species/habitats for which restoration is
designed):
During the expansion of this site it is recommended that a buffer of vegetation in its current state or better
be maintained for a distance of 300 feet from the edge of the drainage or 150 feet if a drainage control
berm is installed on the north west edge of the operations. A seed mix containing a high percentage of
shrub components to primarily benefit mule deer would be recommended.
Prepared By: Date: n 3—2('O/
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES,Greg E.Walcher,ExenNw Director
VVILDUFE COMMISSION,Rack Enstrom,Chair•Robert Shoemaker,Vice-Chair•Marianne Raaopoulos,Secretary
