EXHIBIT E -RECLAMATION
North Lake Area
The primary purpose of this amendment proposes a change to the reclamation of the existing 36-acre
North Lake. According to the approved permit for this operation, the north pit area is to be reclaimed as
an unlined wildlife pond. This amendment request proposes to minimize the surface area of the pond by
developing a portion of the area as wetlands.
In accordance with the existing permit, backfilling of the north pit slopes will utilize excess
topsoiVoverburden salvaged during mining. All slopes will be no steeper than 3 V:1H to a depth often
feet below the anticipated water level, transitioning to a maximum of 2V:1 H thereafter. Grading of the
pit floor of the unlined North Lake area has occurred in a manner that will allow wash fines, pumped from
the aggregate processing operation, to settle in and fill various cells of the excavation, which will
facilitate the establishment of wetlands and minimize the exposed surface area of the pond. Wetland
areas will then be seeded with wetland plant species appropriate to the various hydrologic regimes
established in this manner.
It is anticipated that approximately 15 acres of the North Lake area will be reclaimed as wetlands.
Wetland areas will be revegetated with wetland species of herbaceous plants, lazge and small shrubs and
grasses. Examples of the type of species that may be planted are as follows:
Shrubs Peachleaf willow Populus sargentii
Sandbar willow Salix exigua
Sedges and Rushes Water sedge Carex acquatilis
Nebraska sedge Carex nebraskensis
Spike sedge Eleocharis palustris
Torry rush Juncus torreyi
Grasses Canada reedgrass Calamagrostis expansa
Fowl mannagrass Glyceria striata
Emergents Alkalik bulrush Scirpus paladosus
Soft stem bulrush Shoeneoplectus validus
Broadcast seed application rates and use of other similar species shall be determined in consultation with
qualified experts. Revegetation of other disturbed surfaces in the North Lake area will be in accordance
with the existing permit.
A spillway to the South Platte River will be constructed at the north end of the wetlands/pond area, in
accordance with Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (tJDFCD) recommendations, to allow water
to flow into and out of the pit. The spillway length for the North Lake area, depicted on the revised
Exhibit F-Reclamation Plan Map submitted with this amendment request, was found using UDFCD
criteria.
Central and South Reservoirs
In addition to the change proposed for reclamation of the North Lake area, this amendment incorporates
reclamation details that will allow for minimum mining setbacks from the South Platte River in the
Central and Sou[h Reservoir areas. The existing approved permit provides for mining within 100-feet of
