Mr. Thomas A. Schreiner Page 2
March 9, 2005
cross section of the spillway is shown in Attachment B. Varra Companies will adjust: a) grading, b) stockpile
locations, and c) equipment placement such that floodwaters conveyed through the temporary spillway will be
unimpeded as they flow from west to east through the pit. The results of a hydraulic analysis associated with
this Interim Measure (See Attachment C) indicate that 100-year water surface elevations along the Objector's
property will be lower lien the Objector's buildings floor elevations.
Any areas disturbed during construction of the Interim Measure will be renegotiated with an appropriate seed
mixture. Long-term stability components (such as riprap and a control sill) will be added to the ultimate
spillway configuration during construction of the long-term Flood Control Mitigation Plan. Due to tailwater
constraints from each of the existing ponds on the site and the Cache la Poudre River backing up into the pits
from downstream, erosion of the interim measure will be minimized. The Varra Companies will repair and
maintain the interim spillway.
This plan was delivered to Weld County, the local floodplain agency, for revieev. We received approval from
Weld County as shown in Attachment D. We are anticipating starting construction of the Interim Measure
Thursday March 10°i. We anticipate completion of the Interim Measure on or about March 12ih. Varra
Companies will be available for a site visit by DMG staff on March 14th or 15'h to inspect the Interim Measure
prior to the board meeting on March 16'".
We would greatly appreciate your timely review of this submittal.
