Pickford <br />Environmental Protection Specialist <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />RE: Platte Sand & Gravel LLC, S 8 H Mina, Permit No. M-2000.15; Revision No. Am-1 '~ <br />Objec~+~ lc4k-/ <br />Dear Ms. Pickford: <br />The Town of Milliken respectfully requests that the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />consider the following issues during its consideration of the Platte Sand & Gravel's request to <br />amend permit M-2000-158. <br />Mining Plan <br />1. What kind of plan does the operator have in place to resolve issues and to mitigate <br />impacts that result from the mining operation? <br />2. The South Platte River Corridor contains some of the area's most valuable wildlife habitat, <br />How will the proposed operation impact the riparian areas, cottonwood galleries and the <br />river corridor (i.e. What trees will be removed? How will the operator monitor and care for <br />existing trees to ensure they survive? What measures will be taken to ensure they receive <br />sufficient water? What mitigation measures are proposed? The Town is aware that the <br />river corridor contains Prebles' Meadow Jumping Mouse and Bald Eagle habitat, What <br />steps has the operator taken to protect these species? Has the Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife reviewed and commented on the mining plan? <br />3. The Town is concerned that the applicant has not finalized the Road Maintenance <br />/ \ ~ Agreement with Weld County. This is a violation of the Annexation and Development <br />l ~) Agreement that the operator entered into with the Town of Milliken on January 22, 2003. <br />Further, it is the Town's understanding that the operation has not received final approval <br />from the Milliken Fire Protection District. <br />4. What is the applicant's weed management plan? <br />5. The Town is aware that this site is of historical significance.
