The study area, comprising approximately 66 acres, is located
west of U.S Highway 287, five miles north of Colorado Highway 14 in northeast Larimer
County. More particularly the site is described as a 66-acre tract of land situated in the
east half of Section 24, Township 9 North, Range 70 West of the 6th Prime Meridian.
A Senior Engineering Geologist and Senior Geotechnical Engineer of Terracon and Mr.
Wayne Brantley of the Pioneer Sand Company made a visual observation of the site on
June 19, 2003. Additional observations were made at the site by the senior engineering
geologist on June 23, 2003. The area studied consists of the existing Ingleside quarry
which is located on a north south trending ridge. The existing quarry is located at the north
edge of the property approximately 300 feet east of the top of the ridge and the west
property line. The existing quarry has been excavated along the dip slope of the bedrock
and has an approximate 30-foot headwall. The quarry is approximately 800 feet long and
85 feet wide along the dip slope. The flat pit floor east of the slope is approximately 200
feet wide. Large stockpiles of sorted and crushed rock are stored in this area. The material
ranges from sand to large rip rap. An access road is located along the east edge of the
property and quarry. A scale house and scale-are located near the southeast comer of the
site and an existing gravel road though a break in the ridge forms the south property line.
Historically, previous small mining operations have disturbed the natural slope beyond the
limits of the current quarry. Bedrock fragments varying in size from a few inches to
several feet along with small excavations are scattered over much of the site. The
undisturbed slope is vegetated with native grasses, wild flowers, shnabs and scattered
pine. Surtace bedrock outcrops are located throughout the area and the bedrock outcrops
all along the top of the ridge. Maximum relief of the site is approximately 250 feet from the
top of the ridge on the west to the access road on the east.
The proposed quarry expansion is located in the Front Range of the Southern Rocky
Mountain physiographic providence. The Front Range is a major, upthrust, mountain belt
Arizona ~ Arkansas ~ Colorado ~ Idaho ~ Illinois ~ Iowa ~ Kansas ~ Minnesota ~ Missoud ~ Montana
Nebraska ~ Nevada ~ New Mexico ~ North Dakota ~ Oklahoma ~ Tennessee ~ Texas ~ Utah ~ Wisconsin ~ Wyoming
~ualiry Engineering Since 1965
