- ~ Bob Oswald
Re: Sunday Mine, Permit M-1977-285
Request for Technical Revision
The Operator will solicit input from the BLM and the Division as to the effectiveness and
preferred alternatives for blocking and permanently closing minor access roads given the
proliferation of 4WD vehicles and All Terrain Vehicles ("ATV") on public-access lands. More
site damage may result due to persistent efforts of site visitors to access "closed" sites than
would occur if such were stabilized, but left accessible.
Reclamation Seed Mix: Adjoining mine sites in the local area have differing reclamation
seed mixes in the original permit reclamation plans. The Operator proposes to "standardize" the
seed mix to be used in the area of the Sunday group of mines. The proposed seed mix is derived
from the existing mixes in the permits held by the Operator and from recent experience with the
proposed general mixture. The following seed mix is proposed:
Western Wheatgrass:
Crested Wheatgrass:
Indian Ricegrass:
Yellow Sweet Clover
Four Wing Saltbush:
Sand Dropseed:
61bs/acre PLS
61bs/acre PLS
3 lbs/acre PLS
1 lb/acre PLS
41bs/acre PLS
0.216/acre PLS
The general method for applying seed will be to use an ATV or other specially adapted
implement suited for broadcast seeding operations. ATV's provide a great deal of flexibility and
mobility for working on slopes. ATV's also can be used for harrowing or dragging to cover
seed.
Salvage of topsoil from past disturbances has been limited at the Sunday Mine site.
Revegetation will rely initially on the existing waste rock. The operator will salvage available
topsoil from future disturbance areas and possibly from sediment collection areas if these can
provide sources of usable "topsoil" material.
We look forward to working with you to process this Technical Revision request.
Sincerely,
(~~
Tent' l~.
