GENERAL NOTES
1. Total Project Area: 37.6 Acres
2. Total Mined Land Area: 32.5 Acres
3. Mining for sond and gravel will be accomplished by a progressive,
open pit mining method. As overburden in front of the active sand and
gravel mining area is removed, it will be placed in the backfill area
behind the sand and grovel highwall area. The backfill area will also
require inert, import fill material. AT NO TIME SHALL THE EXCAVATION
PIT AREA (See Typical Section Depicted Below) EXCEED 6 ACRES IN
4. The top two to six inches of topsoil material shall be stripped from
mining area, stockpile areas, processing areas, and site houl roads. The
topsoil shall be stockpiled in buffer areas adjacent to mining operations
and used for site reclamation. Topsoil stockpiles in place for one year
or more shall be seeded using the reclamation seed mix.
5. Reclamation topsoil placement, mulching, seeding and fertilizing may
be delayed unit all sond and grovel has been mined from the permit
area. See Reclamation plans for additional details.
6. Mining for the sond and gravel will require the use of pumps to
remove groundwater from the excavation pit area. The dewatering
operations will progress along with the mining operations as they move
through the site. Groundwater will be pumped and discharged into
settlement pond(s) prior to discharge off of the project site and into the
Canning Factory Drain ditch. Two discharge points along the north
boundary of the project, have been approved by the State of Colorado.
The discharge will be monitored prior to release, in accordance with the
permit requirements.
7. A 5' Landscape strip, installed per the City of Grand Junction
Requirements, shall be provided along the entire length of the project
along G Road and the north 600' of 23 Road.
8. The entire project site shall be fenced. A 6' chainlink fence with
screening fabric shall be used in all areas which front 23 Road and G
Road, and all residential uses. A high tension wire fence shall be used
in all other areas.
9. All precipitation runoff shall be collected and retained in a new
retention pond constructed along the west edge of the project. All
disturbed areas within the project shall be graded such that drainage will
be collected within this retention pond or the excavation pit area.
10. Haul roads depicted on this drawing may be adjusted or relocated
as necessary to promote safe mining and access practices. Haul roads
shall be covered with clean grovel as required to control dust. Houl
roads, stockpiles, and other disturbed areas shall be kept damp, covered,
or chemically treated with magnesium chloride, as required, to control
dust.
11. Access to and from the mining operations shall be from 23 Road
only.
12. Mining for sand and gravel shall not extend post the buffer limits
established on the project drawings, unless otherwise noted. In no case
shall the rock crusher be located within 500 feet on a residential
dwelling.
13. All sand and grovel highwall mining (i.e. - the sand and gravel
highwall) that is located within 100' of the North, South and West Permit
Boundary shall be cut at a maximum 3:1 slope. This restriction has
been placed to minimize the risk of slope failure large enough to cause
damage to offsite structures. The 100' buffer length was established
assuming a maximum mining depth of 32'.
14. Mining for sand and gravel material is anticipated to require 10
years to mine, and another 2 years to deplete material stockpiles and
complete site reclamation work.
