Appendix B: Photographs
Following is a selection of photographs of the site. These were all taken on the same day, July 10, 2002. In
some cases, the photograph is at the top ofthe page and at the bottom of the page is a sketch of the image with
various labels to show certain features of importance in the photograph. Due to the fact that 2002 was an unusually
dry year (some experts consider it a 100 year drought event), the vegetation vigor, with the exception of the stream
bed vegetation, is considerably lower than usual. Where appropriate, adjacent natural vegetation is also provided in
the image for comparison purposes. With the streambed vegetation, changes in the growth can occur at any time
due to the occurrence of strong thunderstorms. Streambeds in this area normally are either dry or carry only small
an7ounts of water. But strong or severe thunderstorms can produce devastating flash floods that can carry great
quantities of water down these drainages. These flows can be severe enough to wash out roads and bridges and
therefore changes in the channel vegetation are to be expected and are considered to be inevitable; it is just a
question of when that will happen, not if it will happen. In some cases, entire revegetation units could be destroyed
leaving nothing more than a sandy stream bed. Therefore, the photographs of the streambed reclamation areas
document the condition as of the date of the photograph, July 10, 2002.
Reclamation Status -Coal Creek Resources M-1988-044 August 2002 Page 10 of 10
