. TRINIDAD BASIN MINING CO
HC 81, Box 6
Barbourville, Ky. 40906
January 4, 1993
Steve Renner
Division of Minerals 6 Geology
1313 Sherman st., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203-2273
Dear Mc. Renner:
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
sss

JAN 0 71893
MANE San, ~~r-
Rq~ 1S1
a u~o~,• ,,;y
I am the operator of Trinidad Basin Mining. I have tried
r_o r.eclaim the mine according to regulations. I have even
reclaimed areas that were pre-law disturbance and was not even
my responsibility. Anyone who walks the site can see how good
the reclamation has been done. It is excellent. I cannot get
any corporation from the division therefore, I feel it is in my
best interest to abandon the site.
Steve, I know you have iheard about this job, I'm sure you
have been told the mines was opened years and years ago. I have
reclaimed the red dog, this >s some of the area where we have
reclaimed to blend in with mine. We reclaimed the disturbance
from both underground mines and old Wiggins strip mine area
that we are not getting any credit for.
Everything was working good until. the surface land owner
and mineral owner got into a law suit on who gets the royalties
and I had a new permit that the mine reclamation just issued me
and the court ruled me off the property so I stayed on and
reclaimed for seven (7) long years daily maintaining it in order
to have a name that I would not leave a job before it was finished.
The biggest problem that we have since we no longer have
control of the t~ropecty. and it was sold at a court sage. is
the people who bought it have built streets and houses on this
property. The maintenance of the site has been extremely
difficult not only because of high rainfall, but because the
surface owners are against all activity on surf ac e, and have
threatened us with law suits. It has happened in the past when
we brought equipment on the site the land owners would protest
and wanted us to leave.
I am not a large contractor and I am not doing this work
anymore. I am out of business in that field. I work at a day
job like you do. I can't afford the expense anymore, I have
been paying for this out of my own salary from here, and I
can't do it anymore. I'm not just saying this and making excuses,
but since I have no tight of entry on the property anymore and
this has been a problem for a number of years.
-continue-
