the following spring, according to the recommendations of Montrose County Weed
Control.
13. The Office of State Engineer has been contacted and the DMG will be supplied with
copies of all correspondence with the OSE as it is received. A letter from Woodrow and
Roushar on behalf of the Uncompahgre Water Users Association has been included
stating that there are no impediments to users of water by Haldorson and Sons, Inc.
14. The cottonwood grove mentioned in Exhibit J will be removed during mining, and there
are no intentions by the operator to replant these trees. The existing cottonwoods have
grown around an irrigation return flow in a gully from the upper terrace. Once the area is
reclaimed, the area will be flat and the post mining use is irrigated field.
15. The estimated annual production of alfalfa in the proposed area is estimated at 3.5 tons of
alfalfa per acre.
16. We agree with the staff that moving overburden and topsoil to the pit floor with a dozer
will not be the most effective or efficient way to conduct the reclamation process in these
areas. In order to move material to the pit floor, a scraper or a comparable piece of
equipment will be employed.
17. The proposed relocation of the power poles has not yet been determined. A meeting with
the Delta / Montrose Electric Association will happen as soon as DMEA has an engineer
available. No waterlines will be relocated, although some waterlines will be removed
with this plan. The waterlines which are proposed to be removed have simply been
omitted from Maps C-2 and F. Chipeta Water District has supplied a letter stating that in
the future the waterlines which cross the properties could be rerouted or terminated. A
damage waiver for Chipeta Water District has been enclosed. The plan for relocation of
the powerlines with the DMEA will be supplied to the Division as soon as the plan has
been accepted by DMEA. The damage waiver from DMEA has been accepted, but has
not been received back yet; the Division will be supplied with this damage waiver as
soon as it is received.
If you have any questions please call our office at (303) 346-5196 or you can call me directly at
(303)810-4377.
Sincerely
N7
Greg Gibson
Greg Lewicki and Associates
