ADEQUACY ISSUES PERTAINING TO AREAS OTHER THAN THE PROPOSED NEW PERMIT AREA
1 . Please revise the pre-mine map to accurately reflect current conditions of the site. Some slopes
are not depicted as the currently exist and the west portion of the west lake has not yet been
mined. Also identify the utilities owners and show and label all current stockpiles.
2. Please revise the mine plan map to show the limits of .5H:1 V mining operations, show direction
of mining for all areas that remain to be mined, and show all topsoil and overburden stockpiles.
3. Please demonstrate that adequate material is on site to create the final approved slopes and re-
build the separator between the north and east lakes. If enough material is not located on site,
please indicate how much material will need to be imported to complete the backfilling ,grading
and topsoil replacement and, if possible, specify where that material will be obtained.
Importation costs, if required, will need to be added to exhibit L.
4. Please commit to installation of sufficient markers to clearly identify the location of the .5H:1 V
highwall advance limits.
5. The existing permit contains a commitment to provide a damage waiver agreement or engineering
demonstration of stability for each permanent man-made structure before excavating within 200
feet of each structure. This commitment has not been adhered to in several instances. Please
submit an engineering demonstration of stability for each structure where excavation has
encroached closer than 200 feet (railroad, highway, utilities, A. WrighYs structures).
6. AM-02 contained a commitment to submit engineered plans that address measures to be taken to
ensure geotechnical stability of the buffer between the north lake and the Gunnison River. This
commitment has not been adhered to. Please submit the required demonstration prior to
encroaching any closer to the Gunnison River.
7. Please indicate that adequate well permits have beeh obtained, or-have been applied for, for the
various lakes that have been, or will be excavated.
8. Please revise the reclamation plan map to show the 940 linear feet of 5H:1 V final pit slope that
was committed to in AM-01, the 7H:1 V permanent ramps, indicate where the various types of
vegetation will be planted, and indicate where the various goose nesting boxes have been and/or
will be installed.
9. Please revise the reclamation plan to include removal of the tamarisk, remove planting of Russian
olive from the west lake revegetation plan and replace it with plans for planting of an equal
number of willow, sumac and buffaloberry.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone
no. 970-243-6368.

Steve S.
