_'
INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
F]LE N0. 77-210
DATE: November 21, 1984
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. The primary purpose of this inspection was to field investigate the
proposed expansion as applied for in a recent amendment. Mr. Mark Heffner,
consultant for Castle Concrete Company, was present.
2. The visual berm exhibited good revegetation success in the extremely
°lcareous soil and mixed waste rock. Gullying had occurred from recent heavy
,•ainfall. Riprap had been placed to minimize further erosion. The operator
stated additional riprap will be placed where erosion has occurred. It was
difficult to determine whether erosion had occurred as a result of runoff from
the operating area above the berm or just from the berm area.
3. The waste pile on site was approximately 50,000 cubic yards. Waste from
the site is crusher fines, some of which is sold. A small portion of the
waste rock pile had been dumped onto a vegetated area. The operator stated
that this area had been scraped and had revegetated with invadec species.
4. The maps submitted in the amendment application accurately depict the
site. Adequacy items were briefly discussed concerning permit houndaries and
nearby wells.
5. The pit and operations were at or near the existing permit. boundary.
6. The pit and underground workings were dry at the time of this inspection.
RECGi'h1ENDATIONS:
1. The operator should design a drainage control plan that w~1T minimize ,_. .~ ~
erosion and divert and direct runoff. This will decrease maintenance for
roads and operating areas as well as minimize environmental damtige. If _.;_~
feasible a sediment pond should be considered for this site, be~iow all
disturbed areas.
2. No mining outside the existing permit boundary should be conducted until
the amendment is approved and increased financial warranty is submitted and
approved.
PCS:JO/pjh
Doc.
